Inspiration of the Self-Reliance 30-Day Writing Challenge

To celebrate Ralph Waldo Emerson's 208th birthday (May 25th, 1803), Self-Reliance urges us to trust our intuition rather than conforming to the will of the majority.

Beginning on May 31st, 2011, The Ralph Waldo Emerson Self-Reliance website*** will post a daily prompt. This will continue for 30 days.

This is my unique creation of personal reflection and responses, based on those prompts.

Five Years

DAY 8 -
"There will be an agreement in whatever variety of actions, so they be each honest and natural in their hour".
Ralph Waldo Emerson

PROMPT:
What would you say to the person you were five years ago?
What will you say to the person you’ll be in five years?

Dear Ginny of 2006,
You’re beginning a path, in which you’ll find more serenity and peace in your life.  However, this is also a year of extreme challenges.  Just know in your heart, that the universe will not give you any more than you can tolerate.  You’re a survivor and so you will survive this, too.  If you find yourself wavering with uncertainty, or focusing on the past or the future, try not to hesitate.  Instead, concentrate your attention in the now present moment.  Feel each moment as you are living it.   Continue on this journey, moving forward, counting your blessings daily, being kind, compassionate and generous to others.  Reach out with love.  Keep family as a priority.  Remember, whatever challenges you may encounter on your route, accept them with love, and quickly move on, all the while counting your blessings.

Dear Ginny of 2016,

You’ve survived the medical challenges of blood clots and arthritis, as age begins to show.  Do not be discouraged, as you approach your 69th birthday.  If you’re reading this, then you’ve made it this far, so consider yourself blessed.  Continue recording your daily gratitude, as you’ve done for over ten years.  Remember to be mindful of each now present moment, living life to the fullest.  Greet each day with love in your heart, a smile on your face and compassion for yourself and for others.  Be persistent with your generosity, helping those who may need it, whenever you are able.  As no one stays on this earth forever, if you’ve not made it to 2016, be grateful for the time you had, your experiences, your challenges, family, friends and love.  You’ve been blessed.
